Sonmez Co-authors Paper on ‘Incentivized Kidney Exchange’

Tayfun Sönmez, professor of economics at Boston College, has co-authored a paper, “Incentivized Kidney Exchange,” which proposes a new scheme to increase the number of transplants by incentivizing participation via insurance payment to compatible kidney donors.

During the past decade, living-donor organ exchange has become important transplantation technology.

According to the authors, the paper’s objective is to introduce and advocate for, “… a new organ-allocation policy that has strong potential not only to increase the supply of organs available for transplantation (thus increasing the eefficiency of the organ-allocation system), but also to decrease its inequity.”
